The model for 2021 is out. The German company added one more trim level, but there are no big cosmetic changes. So, the redesign is planned for the 2022 VW Amarok. The truck might also get a replacement. Tarok is a smaller pickup, and it doesn’t seem as capable as the Amarok. On the other hand, some experts think this one is going to be the version for the US market. Again, it is too small for the largest stage in the world. Atlas Tanoak is another platform that can be in production soon.
The popularity of VW’s pickup is growing. The model is the big rival to Japanese vehicles, Nissan Navara and Toyota Hilux. Also, the Ford Ranger is not safe. With the company’s growth in the US, we can expect a debut in the truck market. Nevertheless, the 2022 VW Amarok will have to equip a greener engine instead of oil burners. Again, we believe that the German carmaker is ready, especially with the new ID concepts available for production.
What’s New For the 2022 VW Amarok?
The truck is getting a new look inspired by other concepts that were recently launched by Volkswagen. The German carmaker is pretty active in the market, and every now and then they surprise us with some solutions. For the 2022 VW Amarok, designers will work on the new appearance and features for the exterior and interior. Higher trim levels will use bedliners. Also, the company could look to improve the access to the bed. The size of the pickup should stay the same.
2022 VW Amarok Interior
Inside the cockpit, buyers will find a lot of standard features. Base, Trendline and Highline are the trim levels available in most markets. 16-inch wheels are there, and you can upgrade the styling with 17- or 18-inchers. Fog lights and leather interior are available through higher trims. Also, you can get a larger touchscreen display and navigation. Volkswagen was adding special editions every now and then, such as the truck for Sochi Olympics. The latest model is Amarok W580, the off-road edition for Australian deserts.
Engines and Specs
If Volkswagen wants to launch Amarok in the US, a switch in the engine room is required. The truck is very popular in Europe, Australia and Asia, and the best-selling models are using diesel configurations. A 2.0-liter oil-burner is available with 140, 165, or 180 hp, while the torque is between 250 and 310 lb-ft. You will have to pay extra for the 4Motion drive. The rear-wheel drive is the default configuration. A 2.0-liter petrol models comes with 165 hp and 220 lb-ft. Although turbocharged, it cannot match the towing capacities of a diesel mill. The top of the range version is using the Bluemotion V6 powerplant. For those who say the VW could add a diesel truck to the US market, this might be the perfect solution. It creates 260 hp and 440 lb-ft of torque, which is a similar output to the power of Powerstroke, Duramax, and EcoDiesel engines that leading half-ton trucks in the United States are using.
