Amarok is one of the most favorite pickup trucks outside the US. We still expect its debut in the biggest market. The German company could also bring it with a different nameplate, or some modifications. Atlas Tanoak and Tarok are some of the possibilities. Still, across the ocean, the 2021 VW Amarok remains the main option.
The company updated the truck in the previous two seasons. A 3.0 diesel unit joined the lineup, and this season engineers tuned it to deliver more power. Besides a V6, there is also a turbo-four oil burner, as well as a 2.0-liter petrol powerplant.
Across the world, we will see different variations of styling cues and options. If we have to make a list of standard models, that would be Base, Trendline, and Highline. In some other countries, buyers can find a pickup with an extended bed, chassis cab, or even different badge.
2021 VW Amarok Specs
A 2.0-liter diesel is an entry-level engine. The carmaker tunes it to deliver 140, 165, or 180 horsepower, and 250-310 lb-ft of torque. We can see the same engine delivering more power, but less twist in some other vehicles. However, the 2021 VW Amarok will also get better towing capabilities. A rear-wheel drive is standard, while the famous 4Motion AWD is optional. The power router is an 8-speed gearbox.
A petrol configuration for the 2021 Volkswagen Amarok includes the same drive modes and transmission. A 2.0-liter gasoline unit is more powerful than diesel sibling (165 hp) but creates less torque (220 lb-ft). It is a cleaner option, but oil-burner returns better mileage and towing capacity,
Finally, the new powertrain in the lineup is a 3.0-liter V6. The Bluemotion setup was available since 2016. Now, instead of an automatic transmission, buyers can select a manual gearbox. Engineers are tuning it to produce 220 hp and 170 lb-ft of torque, and some say this could be the setup for the US market. The standard model will return 260 ponies and 430 lb-ft.
Trim Levels and Options
Amarok is one of the most recognizable trucks in the industry. You might noticed special editions, such as Sochi Olympic versions, or the Polar Expedition model. Still, the base lineup should remain the same. The Base truck will make changes in the package and offer updated features. Outside, a 16-inch wheels set remains standard. Some of the advanced accessories buyers are getting through higher trims or optional packages are 17- and 18-inch wheels, electronic lock and windows, fog lights, larger touchscreen display, or unique colors. The Highline model is top of the lineup version with leather interior, wooden trims, and premium audio system. Also, navigation is standard here.
2021 VW Amarok Release Date and Competition
The new 2021 VW Amarok is coming out by the end of this year. The company will also update the exterior of the pickup to make it more aggressive. Well, the competition is tough and some radical moves are also expected. Ford Ranger, Toyota Hilux, and Nissan Navara are leaders in the segment. Amarok will also see the competition from Mazda BT-50, Isuzu D-Max, and Mitsubishi L200.
