Jeep is back in the truck market. We can’t wait to see if buyers are finding their Gladiator interesting. The first sales will show if the mid-size model meets demands and complete duties. Still, with a large V6 turbodiesel, the 2021 Jeep Gladiator will be one of the most powerful trucks in the segment.
We can already hear rumors about new versions. The 2021 Jeep Gladiator Hercules could be the highlight of the first update. Still, it is good to see the radiator-grille company back in the pickup market. The pricing of the new model will be known later, while the standard configurations will keep MSRP.
2021 Jeep Gladiator Specs
The 2021 Jeep Gladiator will use a petrol engine as the standard configuration. It is a well-known Pentastar unit that produces power for many other FCA vehicles. A 3.6liter V6 unit is creating 285 hp and 260 pound-feet of torque. Interesting, the truckmakers makes the Gladiator available with a six-speed manual gearbox. Still, most buyers will probably pick an eight-pace automatic transmission.
One of the most interesting upgrades for the new truck in the market is a 3.0-liter EcoDiesel unit. It is a turbocharged V6 engine available for the Ram 1500 full-size pickup. With 260 hp and 440 lb-ft of torque, it seems too much for the smaller segment. But, Chevy Colorado can produce 180 hp and 370 lb-ft of a twist with its Duramax drivetrain.
The advantages of a big displacement are superb towing capacity and a lot of hauling potential. We don’t have ratings for a diesel model, but the Gladiator with a petrol unit is already the best in class. The Pentastar powerplant can pull 7,650 pounds.
The highlight of the 2021 Jeep Gladiator is a seven-slot radiator grille. Also, the truck looks like a pickup version of the Wrangler SUV. Truckers had a lot of questions about Gladiator’s bed, but the first rides assured us the new model will prove everyone wrong. Tailgate offers a three-way position system. The truck is available in four trim levels for the 2020 season and the 2021 YM could add a special version (Hercules). Rubicon is definitely the most interesting one at the moment. If you don’t need an off-road specialist, then other options are Sport, Sport S, and Overland.
2021 Jeep Gladiator Price and Competition
The mid-size pickup market is growing. Experts think it is the hottest one in the moment, and one of the reasons is new arrivals. The Jeep is back, as well as Ford. Two of the three biggest US carmakers are joining the class that was not so attractive since the big crisis. Now, the 2021 Jeep Gladiator will battle Ford Ranger, Chevy Colorado, and Toyota Tacoma.
The base price for the Sport model is $33,500, while the Sport S adds $2,500 in features and options. Overland belongs to the premium class with a $40k price tag. The most expensive edition will be Rubicon. The off-road model costs $44,000 and brings special upgrades for the drivetrain system and a lot of interior and exterior upgrades.
