We are still trying to figure out what will the F-150 Raptor look like with a diesel engine. Imagine the same package in combination with a 6.7-liter turbodiesel V8 Powerstroke unit! Incredible off-road performances would raise the bar to another level. However, the 2021 Ford F-250 Raptor is still just a dream, since the Blue Oval company is not mentioning it yet.
So, the truck would be a combination of superb capabilities taken from the heavy-duty class and the package that makes the F-150 Raptor one of the best trucks in the market. However, sales are questionable, since the 2021 Ford F-250 Raptor would cost too much. Also, it is more likely to see the mid-size Ranger rather than the Super Duty model with the special upgrades. Whatsoever, we expect the unexpected from the Ford. It wouldn’t be the first time the truckmaker is making a stunning move.
2021 Ford F-250 Raptor Specs
Both engine options will make the 2021 Ford F-250 Raptor a mean truck. The company replaced an old petrol unit with the new 7.3-liter displacement. We were waiting for this one for some while. The engine is making 380 hp and 430 lb-ft of torque. It is significantly less than the F-150 Raptor can do. On the other hand, the heavy-duty truck cannot get the same performance from the high-output V6 drivetrain.
So, it leaves a turbodiesel as the best choice. A 6.7-liter Powerstroke can make nearly as much power as the 3.5-liter petrol. On the other hand, the torque jumps from 510 lb-ft to at least 900. The twist will be used not to maximize the towing capacity, but the off-road performance. In the combination with special all-terrain equipment, the pickup is going to be unstoppable. On the other hand, we will see if engineers can adapt all the special items for the larger truck.
Is It Possible?
The new generation of the Super Duty trucks debuted this year. So, the first season after that, the company can bring some updates. Without the need for cosmetic tuning or engineering jobs, we can see a new version of the heavy-duty truck. Well, that is just a guess, but it sounds reasonable, doesn’t it?
On the other hand, the market for the 2021 Ford F-250 Raptor will be very small. The truck will be based on the entry-level model, but it doesn’t promise a good price, especially with a turbodiesel engine.
There are also a few good reasons to believe this might be an option. First, truckmakers generate the most profit from the HD class. So, the Raptor badge can bring something new. The only rival we see in this segment is Power Wagon. Still, its upgrades and performances cannot be compared to the possible Ford’s package. General Motors is also preparing a similar unit. The bow-tie badge is going to add the ZR2 version to the heavy-duty truck lineup.
The Raptor model in the full-size segment is priced at $50,000. The Super Duty truck, with a 6.7-liter Powerstroke unit, won’t be under $60,000.
