Not a single hybrid truck is currently available in the US market. Well, we won’t count the mild-hybrid system in the Ram 1500 which doesn’t mean too much. But, rumors are louder every day. The 2021 Chevy Silverado Hybrid is the latest thing we can hear. Well, the GM is not among the leaders in other segments when we talk about the electrification. But, their icon is not the second best-selling truck anymore and they have to do something about it.
Sales in the first three quarters of 2019 showed us that Ram 1500 achieves better results than Chevrolet Silverado. Ford F-150 is untouchable and it heads to the one million sold trucks. Also, we can hear the Blue Oval company bragging about heavy investments in electrification. It will result in electric and hybrid versions of the F-150. The 2021 Chevy Silverado Hybrid is a response to these announcements.
No Other Hybrid to Compare it With
The 2021 Chevy Silverado Hybrid is still a far-fetched story. The company is definitely thinking about it, but the production is not happening so soon. There is no other trucks to set up the challenge. Also, GM has no big SUV with some kind of a hybrid setup, so we can compare it to the truck. Everything is still very blurry, but enthusiasts are still hoping that Chevrolet will manage to keep up with the competition.
2021 Chevy Silverado Hybrid vs Ram 1500 Hybrid
As said, the only pickup with a mild-hybrid system is Ram 1500. It could be one of the reasons why buyers are choosing this one over the Silverado. Because of the performance – hardly. The mild-hybrid engine pairs a conventional drivetrain with an electric battery. But, all we are getting is better gas mileage, and that is by 1 mpg compared to the non-hybrid setup. The Silverado will go with a stronger hybrid setup, which will combine a V8 engine and electric motor. Performances will be higher, as well as the price.
Hybrid vs Diesel
A diesel truck is already in the market. While everyone expected electrification, the company launched a drivetrain that will hardly cope with new regulations. The future is greener, and we believe it will be the near future. So, moves by all three leading truckmakers to add a diesel unit to their lineups is strange. Still, the electrification is still an option, but GM will need more time.
2021 Chevy Silverado Hybrid Release Date
The 2021 Silverado Hybrid is possible. But, we believe that the company will introduce the concept in 18-24 months. The production model is not going to be available so soon. However, the GM needs to speed up the development, since Ford is serious about its F-150 Electric truck. Also, it is just a matter of time when will the RAM 1500 get a stronger version.
The hybrid pickup will increase the price. However, we still don’t have any estimation. Experts say the price will depend on many factors, mostly on the size of the petrol engine and the capacity of electric motors.
