The 2020 VW Amarok is not coming to the US. Instead, the company plans to rebadge it and introduce as Atlas Tanoak. Still, the Amarok is remaining one of the most popular pickups outside the US. Ever since its arrival in 2010, the sales are growing and the pickup is now the true rival to Toyota Hilux, Nissan Navara, and other Japanese trucks.
Every now and then the company refreshes the truck a bit. We expect the same in 2020. The last big update was in 2016 when the Amarok received the Bluemotion diesel engine. Next season the Volkswagen could bring a larger redesign, with more cosmetic updates. Nevertheless, the 2020 VW Amarok remains available in three trim levels – Base, Trendline, and Highline.
2020 VW Amarok Engines
Under the hood of the base 2020 VW Amarok will lay a 2.0-liter unit. Buyers will choose if it is going to use petrol or diesel fuel. Well, the other one is more popular, although many countries are not so keen on diesel units anymore. Restrictions and emission standards are tougher to meet, so these types of engines have no bright future.
Anyhow, the 2.0-l diesel engine is capable to deliver 120-180 horsepower, depending on the configuration. Of course, the company is using turbochargers to maximize the outputs. The engine also creates 250-310 lb-ft of torque. The petrol engine is less capable. With 160 hp and 220 lb-ft of twist, the towing capacity drops from 6,500 pounds.
2020 VW Amarok V6
Ever since its release, the V6 unit is the most capable of towing. The maximum hauling potential jumps to 8,000 pounds. A 3.0-liter Bluemotion V6 engine produces 160-225 horsepower and 405 pound-feet of torque. The most powerful version will accelerate 0-60 mph in just 9 seconds, which is a cool result for a pickup truck.
Trendline and Highline Editions
The 2020 VW Amarok is coming with 16-inch wheels for the base model. Front seats are adjustable, while the most controls are manual. Exterior details, such as mirrors, bumpers, and handles are black.
Most manual controls (windows, door locks) are becoming electrically operated. Buyers of this version are also getting automatic climate control and larger wheels. Parts that were black are now in body color. Cruise control is a standard feature, VW added fog lights. Wheels are also larger.
Highline is top of the range offer. Chrome details are making it special and easy to recognize. 18-inch wheels and leather interior are the most notable upgrades. Inside the cabin, we also get advanced infotainment features and the larger touchscreen display.
2020 VW Amarok Release Date
The price of the 2020 VW Amarok will be unchanged. Well, the vehicle is going to be available all around the world, so different markets will offer different options. But, that will all happen as soon as we enter 2020. The larger redesign of the pickup truck is coming with the US version. Amarok will be very close to its sibling, no matter how Volkswagen is going to call it – Amarok or Atlas Tanoak. Price in the US will start from $25,000, that is certain.
