The rivalry between Toyota Tacoma and Chevy Colorado is the toughest battle in the mid-size truck segment. We still don’t have hybrid versions of these vehicles. But, trucks with off-road capability are always more interesting. So, we can’t wait to see what kind of updates the 2020 Toyota Tacoma TRD Pro will bring.
Special upgrades are making the pickup unstoppable. The 2020 Toyota Tacoma TRD Pro adds unique equipment, available only for two other vehicles. These are Tundra truck and 4Runner SUV. All three models are capable to run pretty fast in various terrains. Well, Tacoma TRD Pro must be better next season since Ford Announced they will launch Raptor version of the Ranger.
2020 Toyota Tacoma TRD Pro Upgrades
Which upgrades are making the 2020 Toyota Tacoma TRD Pro so special? First of all, there are Fox shocks. These parts are allowing the truck to go over rocks and other obstacles you will find off the road. The unique setup allows different damping rate. Also, there is one extra inch of ground clearance. The front anti-roll bar is larger for this version of the truck. Wheels are 16 inchers, wrapped with special all-terrain tires. Also, there is one inch of track width which boosts stability and balance. Air intake, snorkel, skidplate, and a lot of badging will make sure you found the 2020 Tacoma TRD Pro pickup.
Under the hood of the 2020 Toyota Tacoma, TRD Pro will be a 3.5-liter V6 engine. This unit is capable to deliver 280 hp and 265 lb-ft of torque. Buyers will choose between manual and automatic transmissions, and both have six gears. The truck is not so fuel friendly, returning only 18 mpg combined (city 17 mpg, highway 21 mpg). In other configurations, the engine can make 24 mpg on the highway. But, that is with 4×2 drive mode, while the TRD Pro requires AWD.
Recently, we can hear a lot of rumors about the diesel engine for the Tacoma. Well, if these stories come true, be sure that 2020 Toyota Tacoma TRD Pro will get it as well. This could make the truck really unstoppable. Even with the petrol engine, Tacoma manages to compete with Chevy Colorado ZR2 off-road truck. The torque that diesel engine is offering is going to help the Tacoma TRD Pro boost its overall performance. However, we still don’t know when it is going to be available and what kind of engine it could be.
There are a few possibilities. Some say a 3.0-liter 1KD-FTV drivetrain could enter the production again. On the other hand, there are two units Toyota Hilux is using. However, both 2.4-l and 2.8-l diesel engines need a revisit to meet the emission requirements of the US market. Building a new engine is an option as well. But, this is the most expensive selection.
