The 2020 Ford Ranger Raptor is becoming a reality for US buyers. Shortly after the standard model, we will see the off-road version with a V6 engine. It is already available for European and Australian customers. Now, Ford is bringing another version back to its homeland.
It’s been a while since we saw Ranger. The comeback caused a lot of interest. The vehicle will be available as the 2019 year model. Ford was clear – Raptor is not coming in the first year. Shortly after the premiere, fans in Europe saw the debut of an off-road version. That makes us believe the 2020 Ford Ranger Raptor will come overseas.
2020 Ford Ranger Raptor Specs
Besides the Raptor versions, fans got some hints about a V6 engine. Also a diesel. Both of these are possible for the 2020 Ford Ranger Raptor. But, let’s see which is the basic configuration. A 2.3-liter EcoBoost is a four-cylinder engine. Compared to its main rivals, it seems like Ranger will need more power. Both Chevy Colorado and Toyota Tacoma are producing more energy. That is why the 2020 Ford Ranger Raptor needs either a V6 or Diesel unit.
2020 Ford Ranger Raptor Diesel
For the European edition, Ford opts for a 2.0-liter turbodiesel package. This unit is good for 210 hp and 370 lb-ft of torque, mainly thanks to the twin-turbo setup. A 10-speed automatic transmission is a power router. We still believe the 2020 Ford Ranger Raptor will need more. Chevy Colorado with diesel unit can make more torque. Whatsoever, Ford’s diesel is stronger than its rivals unit.
2020 Ford Ranger Raptor V6
Another option for the 2020 Ford Ranger Raptor is a V6 engine. However, there are no hints about this drivetrain. Experts are shy to claim that 3.5-liter unit can be the match for the new Ranger Raptor. It is simply too big for a mid-size segment. But, if Colorado can use a 3.6-liter engine, then the Raptor version is clear to beef up the Ranger with a similar powertrain. The output of 290 hp and 260 lb-ft of torque will be more than enough for this breed of the truck.
2020 Ford Ranger Raptor Competition
The 2020 Ford Ranger Raptor is going to be a performance-oriented off-road truck. We already mentioned a couple of the rivals for the standard pickup. Both of them are already offering mean versions for toughest terrains.
Chevy Colorado ZR2 seems to be the biggest rival. This off-road truck brings special suspension and other parts that will be very useful at tough terrains. Power from the diesel engine is making a ride even more fun.
Toyota Tacoma TRD Pro lacks power, but the package of off-road items is very valuable. The ride has never been so smooth. Unique Fox suspension and special shocks are installed for different terrains.
2020 Ford Ranger Raptor Release Date
The new 2020 Ford Ranger Raptor won’t be available so soon. The truck will probably come next year, and Detroit seems to be the right place for its premiere. Some say the price of $40,000 is already set. Well, we will need to wait for more details before we can estimate the cost of 2020 Ranger Raptor.
