The new 2020 Ford Ranger Diesel is coming to the USA. It was just a matter of time when will the Blue Oval company start upgrading the lineup of its compact truck. Well, besides the diesel version, Ranger will also offer an off-road model. Of course, it is a pickup with Raptor badge on it. Some say there is a possibility to see both versions in one truck.
Since Ranger is still a new vehicle, there won’t be too many cosmetic changes for the next season. Well, small updates of the interior, mostly in the infotainment system are certain. Besides that, the US truckmaker will keep the look and appearance for the 2020 Ford Ranger Diesel. Still, we don’t know which trim levels it is going to use, as well as the exact release date. The F-150 Diesel was announced a year ago, and while we are writing this article, it is not available at dealerships yet.
2020 Ford Ranger Diesel Specs
European truck has a diesel unit already. It is a 2.0-liter EcoBlue engine that is capable to produce 210 hp and 370 lb-ft of torque. It is 30 horsepower more than the Chevy Colorado Diesel. Converted to towing capacity, Euro-Spec Ranger Diesel can haul 5,500 pounds. Its archrival is a class leader with 7,700 pounds. With the new Jeep Gladiator offering a similar towing capacity, we are sure that Ford will upgrade these numbers.
The same engine could be used for the US market. A 2.0-liter powertrain will receive further tuning to be more capable to haul. If engineers manage to raise the towing capacity level, then we can consider the 2020 Ford Ranger Diesel as one of the most powerful compact truck in the market. A 10-speed automatic transmission is distributing power, and the gearbox can send it to the rear or all wheels.
2020 Ford Ranger Diesel Raptor
We can’t wait to see if the US company is going to boost off-road skills with a diesel engine. Definitely, a high torque output would be great for tough terrains. On the other hand, there are a lot of other questions. The Raptors for the European and Australian market are 2.2 inches higher than the standard version. Surely, that is expected. Total ground clearance of 11 inches is enough. A 32- degree approach, and 24-degree departure angle a result of further tuning. The 2020 Ford Ranger Diesel Raptor is also getting special shocks and suspension. The terrain management system will allow the driver to select one of the six possible modes.
2020 Ford Ranger Diesel Release Date
It was a kind of surprise when the Ranger re-appeared in the US market. It is using only one drivetrain and the truck does not offer too many options.
