Now with the diesel engine part of the lineup, what is next for Ford F-150? We can hear that the company is ready to launch a performance-oriented truck. Some say the 2020 Ford F-150 Lightning will enter production. This version was a product of Special Vehicle Team (SVT) and it had two waves. The last time we saw a legendary truck with Lightning mode was in 2004. Now, in need to expand the lineup, the Blue Oval company is ready to return it.
We can see the new F-150 using similar modes. However, these are aftermarket upgrades. With such setups, owners are losing the warranty. If the company starts producing the 2020 Ford F-150 Lightning, then you can buy it, keep a peace of mind, and avoid high maintenance costs. So, what do we expect from such a pickup truck? At least 600 horsepower and a lot of torque. Graphics will be unique and the vehicle will make a lot of noise.
2020 Ford F-150 Lightning Drivetrain
If the 2020 Ford F-150 Lightning comes back, the major concern will be its drivetrain. The vehicle used to be a high-performance model with a Triton engine under the hood. These units are in the books now, and the output of 380 hp is not meeting the criteria to keep the “high-performance” attribute. So, instead of an old engine, Ford might use the same unit we will find under the bonnet of the Mustang Shelby GT500 for the next season.
According to rumors, this drivetrain will go up to 700 horsepower. That will be enough to make some difference in the market. Specially tuned for this edition, we can’t call the 2020 Ford F-150 Lightning most powerful truck in the world since some other companies are tuning their models to launch even more power. But, the only 700-hp rated truck that will have continuous production will be Ram Rebel TRX with Hemi engine.
F-150 is new. The redesign introduced a lot of changes, and this will be a good base for the tuning of the 2020 Ford F-150 Lightning. However, the pickup will get numerous updates that will keep it on the road when the 700-hp engine gets its full power and torque. Well, we must see some old-school features and graphics to bring back the memory of the previous edition. But, most of the design language is useless for the new unit and modern needs. A lot of leather inside, with premium infotainment and gadgets, in combination with large wheels (probably 22-inches) and other stuff that will make this vehicle more aesthetic and aerodynamic, are certain. Still, we don’t have any detail released by the company.
2020 Ford F-150 Lightning Release Data and Possible Price
With such upgrades, the truck will definitely be the most expensive F-150 on the market. We believe the Lightning package will hit a $100k mark. Still, Ford needs to confirm it first. But, there is no rush, since this model could be a kind of limited edition, produced in a restricted number of copies. That will be another reason to increase the price. We will know more next year, while the premiere might happen at new Detroit Auto Show in the summer of 2020.
