Chevy Reaper concept is finally getting its production version. But, the performance-oriented truck will use a different name. Instead of the concept title, it will appear as the 2020 Chevy Silverado ZR2. We can see this trim level for Colorado pickup. The ZR2 in the full-size segment will get on the line with Ford Raptor. Also, we can expect a quick response from the third big US truckmaker. Ram Rebel TRX could be also on its way for 2019 season with 707 hp.
The new 2020 Chevy Silverado ZR2 will borrow the engine from the Corvette. If that happens, the truck will be very close to Rebel’s output. On the other side, aggressive design and eye-catching appearance will make people turn their heads to the new pickup. Well, the bad thing is that the price will jump.
2020 Chevy Silverado ZR2 Specs
Under the hood of the 2020 Chevy Silverado ZR2, we will see the most powerful unit the GM can place. The truck will go exotic and search the engine from the pony car. Chevy Corvette has three different configurations for a 6.2-liter V-8 engine. Supercharged, it can deliver 650 hp and 650 lb-ft of torque. That is exactly what 2020 Silverado ZR2 needs. However, the engine can go even higher. Some models are able to burst 750 hp and 715 pound-feet of twist. Either way, the mill will make a beast of the truck.
2020 Chevy Silverado ZR2 Redesign
For a long time, we are waiting for the Chevy Reaper to arrive. However, the design from 2014 is not modern anymore, and the truck needed a facelift before its launch. It also got a new name. The 2020 Chevy Silverado ZR2 is going to be aggressive, with many unique parts. The distinctive look starts with Chevrolet badge up front on the grille. It replaces a bow tie. Yes, its rival Ford Ranger did the same with the Blue Oval logo. Good with air dams, big headlights, larger bumper, and skid plates are going to make the ZR2 recognizable. Side panels are pretty much the same as for the standard truck. Wheels are a lager. The base Silverado 1500 uses 17-inch rims. Reaper came with 20-inch wheels.
Besides the exterior updates, the interior also comes with special treatment. Designers will use their best parts to make this model comfortable and sporty. Seats will be replaced, while the general look of the dashboard will be carried over from a standard model. The 2020 Chevy Silverado ZR2 will use a crew cab configuration. Towing capacity is not the main figure on this pickup. Ground clearance and high torque will make it perfect for an off-road drive.
2020 Chevy Silverado ZR2 Release Date
The 2020 Chevy Silverado ZR2 won’t come in next year or so. After the release of the new Silverado 1500, we will have to wait a few more months before its appearance. When the interest for the base pickup starts to fade, it will be time for refreshment. By then, the company has enough time to build the perfect performance-tuned truck that will be a serious contender on the market.
