2020 Chevrolet Reaper Price, Specifications and Release Date

If you think there are no chances for the 2020 Chevrolet Reaper to appear, then you are horribly wrong. General Motors is already testing the off-road performance-oriented truck. Spy photos are confirming that. However, the prototype is still leaving some questions unanswered. First of all – what will be the name? Options are ZR2 and Reaper.

Other questions are regarding the engine and performance, of course. The Reaper should be capable to compete with the Ford F-150 Raptor. However, the initial rumors are speaking of 600+ ponies, which is another class than the 450-hp rated rival. All in all, GM is looking forward to bring this concept to the market as soon as possible.

Possible Specs

A 6.2-liter engine GM already uses is capable to produce 420 hp and 460 lb-ft of torque. That is not too far away from Raptor’s 450 hp and 510 lb-ft. With additional tuning, the V8 could match the outputs. But, the engineers will go after a lighter engine and a turbo setup. Cadillac could borrow its 4.2-liter bi-turbo V8. So-called “Blackwing” can produce between 500-550 horsepower for the CTS and CTS-V sedans. It also adds 575-640 lb-ft of twisting power.

Reaper Concept

Back in 2014, we’ve heard for Reaper for the first time. However, this was an aftermarket upgrade for the existing Silverado. But, the idea was cool and enthusiasts immediately saw the pickup as F-150’s rival. Ever since fans are dreaming of its appearance. It seems like the performance truck is finally on the way. But, will it be called Reaper?

Test mules are definitely showing something interesting is happening in the GM. It didn’t take too long for experts to notice interesting upgrades on the prototypes, such as the new exhaust system. Well, the rest of the truck is hidden behind the camo. We couldn’t get a clear sight on suspension and shocks, but these should be off-road tuned.

2020 Chevrolet Reaper vs Ram Rebel TRX

The Ford Raptor is not the only competitor the 2020 Chevrolet Reaper will face. Have in mind that FCA poses the most powerful engine in the market and chiefs intend to build a truck with so-called “Hellcat” powerplant. As the name suggests, the outputs are incredible. A 6.2-liter supercharged engine is capable to burst 707 horsepower, and the truckmaker already hinted the TRX Rebel could be out soon. But, FCA didn’t plan the competition by GM.

2020 Chevrolet Reaper Price

The 2020 Chevy Reaper is an off-road, performance-oriented model. Having that in mind, you can expect the premium price. Well, the truck is not going to pack too many luxury stuff inside the cabin, but the drivetrain upgrades are pretty expensive. We can expect the new Reaper pickup above $50,000 for sure.

That is still below the top of the class High Country and its premium equipment. Still, the Reaper will get navigation and advanced sound system as optional upgrades. The production of the Chevy Reaper will start in the second quarter of 2020 and we will see it in dealerships soon after Detroit Auto Show.
